Rain and snow come as winter season approaches.And that would be the time when we would notice some problems with our roof.  When the weather is good you usually won’t notice any problems with your roof.But once the weather becomes harsher the problems then just sprout like mushrooms.Once that happens you would not only deal with a leaky roof but a lot more problems.In this article we would be looking at the problems that you might have when you have a leaky roof.

Obviously, the first problem that you have to deal with with leaky roofs is water getting into your house.This can be the cause of many more problems.  In my San Diego roofing company I have seen ruined furniture.  Or I have seen ruined wood such as cabinets or flooring.This is the time when it is obviously not just the water that is getting into your house that is the problem.

How to know if your old roof needs to be replaced

Our roofs that are over us does have significant meaning.A few times they use it in a figurative sense to describe the homes we own.But the real roof that is over our head is very important as well.But the roofs we have can’t last forever so there will be a time when it has to be replaced.  In this article we are going to look at how to know when you need it replaced.

First of all you need to know how old your roof is.  If you have owned it since it was built that is an easy question to answer.If you didn’t buy it new but bought it used that makes it tougher to know how old it is.  But you can find out how old it is.  Generally I tell all my clients of my San Diego roofing company if there roof is over 20 years old it needs to be replaced.This rule isn’t set in stone but it is a good measure to go by.

Next thing to look for is are there any leaks throughout the home.As your roof starts to get older there is going to be more leaks that happen over time.  If you do start seeing a lot of leaks in various parts of your roof it is a good sign it needs to be replaced.  That is why if a customer calls our Carlsbad roofing company with a leak problem we look to see if it needs to be replaced.

How to make sure your roof doesn’t have leaks

The first thing you have to be able to know is whether the spot was caused by condensation or a leak.  We get calls all the time for my San Diego roofing company for people who think they have a leak.  But when we get to the house we find out it isn’t a leak but a condensation stain.The quick way to see if it is condensation is you will see it doesn’t have a design.  On the other hand a true leak will be circular.So if the spot you see has a circular shape you know you have a leak.

The parts of the roof you want to check next are some weak points on your roof.  Places like by chimneys are a known weak spot and it tends to leak there.  In our roofing Oceanside service we always check those areas because it is so common that it leaks there.It is a fix that is really easy to do because all you have to do is seal that area.
